Baker-Shirer, Professor Emeritus Speech and Phonetics, was Associate Professor of Speech and Phonetics, Dialects, Accents and Voice, at the School of Drama, Carnegie Mellon University from 1993-2016, (tenured in 2001). Baker-Shirer was awarded the William H. and Frances B. Ryan Award for Meritorious Teaching at CMU in May 2001. Other teaching credits include American English Dialect for PHD candidates, Carnegie Mellon Graduate Theatre Program (with Harvard University and MXAT), the University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate Theatre Department, and West Virginia University Drama Department.
Natalie is an alumnus of the School of Drama. As an acting major, she studied speech and phonetics extensively with her mentor Edith W. Skinner and received a BFA in Drama. She earned an MFA in Theatre Pedagogy from the University of Pittsburgh.
